The gene crumbs is referred to in FlyBase by the symbol crb (CG6383, FBgn0259685). It has the cytological map location 95F10-95F11. Its sequence location is 3R:20121138..20140165. Its molecular function is described as: calcium ion binding; spectrin binding; protein binding. It is involved in the biological processes described with 23 unique terms, many of which group under: anatomical structure development; establishment and/or maintenance of cell polarity; primary metabolic process; compound eye photoreceptor development; cell morphogenesis; intercellular junction assembly; positive regulation of cell proliferation; gamete generation; gland morphogenesis; epithelial cell differentiation; sensory organ development; zonula adherens maintenance; protein localization; membrane organization and biogenesis; establishment and/or maintenance of polarity of follicular epithelium; sensory perception of light stimulus. 68 alleles are reported. The phenotypes of these alleles are annotated with 38 unique terms, many of which group under: organ system; peripheral nervous system; nervous system; plasma membrane part; embryonic hindgut; spiracle; adult segment; plasma membrane; portion of tissue; integumentary system. It has 2 annotated transcripts and 2 annotated polypeptides.

Comments
Four Cys-poor regions of crb are distantly related to domains present in the C-terminal part of laminin-A chains and merosin. This homology suggests that the Cys-poor regions may be directly involved in its role in epithelial organization.
crb protein is used as a marker for the boundary cells that delineate the dorsal and ventral domains of the embryonic large intestine.
