Automatically generated summary
See sections below for more information | The gene slit is referred to in FlyBase by the symbol sli (CG8355, FBgn0003425). It has the cytological map location 52C9-52D1. Its sequence location is 2R:11760176..11809623. Its molecular function is described as: receptor binding; protein binding; calcium ion binding. It is involved in the biological processes described with 15 unique terms, many of which group under: anatomical structure development; cell motility; neuron differentiation; cell projection organization and biogenesis; open tracheal system development; gliogenesis; organ development; taxis; regulation of biological process; embryonic heart tube development; regulation of cell-cell adhesion; locomotory behavior; organ morphogenesis. 43 alleles are reported. The phenotypes of these alleles are annotated with 96 unique terms, many of which group under: embryonic neuron; embryonic nervous system; nervous system; organ system; VUM1 neuron; peripheral nervous system; embryonic/larval tracheal system; VUM2 neuron; commissure; abdominal oblique muscle. It has 5 annotated transcripts and 5 annotated polypeptides. | |||

Phenotypic Description from the Red Book (Lindsley & Zimm 1992)
| ||||
| Gene/Allele symbols may differ from current usage | sli: slit
Homozygotes die as embryos. Head involution abnormal. In the ventral nervous system, transverse commissures
lacking entirely. Midline neurons and supportive mesectodermal cells missing. Gene expression confined to ectoderm in
cellular blastoderm (i.e., no expression in presumptive mesoderm) and to the midline neuroepithelium at gastrulation.
Antibodies raised against a TrpE fusion protein fail to stain
mutant embryos. More severe abnormality in Df/sli than
sli/sli indicates that sli is hypomorphic in nature. In combination with Pc-like mutants abdominal transformations occur
(Jurgens).
