The gene egghead is referred to in FlyBase by the symbol egh (CG9659, FBgn0001404). It has the cytological map location 3A6. Its sequence location is X:2482534..2492638. Its molecular function is described as beta-1,4-mannosyltransferase activity. It is involved in the biological processes described with 15 unique terms, many of which group under: anatomical structure development; gamete generation; sexual reproduction; ovarian follicle cell development; reproductive process in a multicellular organism; cell motility; regulation of response to stimulus; establishment and/or maintenance of cytoskeleton polarity; oogenesis; morphogenesis of follicular epithelium; cell fate commitment. 54 alleles are reported. The phenotypes of these alleles are annotated with 32 unique terms, many of which group under: organ system; nervous system; adult segment; adult; peripheral nervous system; larval head segment; tergite; egg; embryonic nervous system; adult brain. It has 2 annotated transcripts and 2 annotated polypeptides.

Gene/Allele symbols may differ from current usage
l(1)3Ae
Alleles tested [l(1)Ae2, l(1)Ae3, l(1)Ae6, l(1)Ae8, l(1)Ae10, l(1)Ae11] die in post puparial stage, but growth slowing starts at various earlier stages; tested alleles survive in hemizygous condition in gynandromorphs; hemizygous eyes rough. Pharate adults dissected from l(1)3Ae1 and l(1)Ae5 pupae show rough eyes, sparse microchaetae, and incomplete dorsal midline; XY but not XO males of both rescued by Dp(1;4)wm65g, exhibiting phenotype of dissected pharate adults described above (Shannon, Kaufman, Shen, and Judd, l972, Genetics 72: 615-38).
