Automatically generated summary
See sections below for more information | The gene Heat shock protein 83 is referred to in FlyBase by the symbol Hsp83 (CG1242, FBgn0001233). It has the cytological map location 63B11. Its sequence location is 3L:3193027..3197061. Its molecular function is described as: ATPase activity, coupled; ATP binding; unfolded protein binding. It is involved in the biological processes described with 11 unique terms, many of which group under: organelle organization and biogenesis; cell cycle; anatomical structure development; cell cycle process; cellular macromolecule metabolic process; response to stress; transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine kinase signaling pathway; sleep; actin filament-based process; gamete generation; anterior/posterior axis specification. 72 alleles are reported. The phenotypes of these alleles are annotated with 16 unique terms, many of which group under: organ system; peripheral nervous system; adult segment; nervous system; adult mesothoracic segment; elongation stage spermatid; cytoplasmic part; germ cell; cell cycle; spermatocyte; spermatozoon; adult external prothorax. It has one annotated transcript and one annotated polypeptide. | |||
Phenotypic Description from the Red Book (Lindsley & Zimm 1992)
| ||||
| Gene/Allele symbols may differ from current usage | Hsp83
The structural gene for the 83,000 dalton heat-shock
protein (HSP83). During development, the gene is expressed at
high levels in the absence of heat shock in many tissues,
especially ovaries where it apparently originates in nurse
cells (Zimmerman, Petri, and Meselson, 1983, Cell 32: 1161-70). During heat shock, however, the expression level is only
raised several fold (Xiao and Lis, 1989, Mol. Cell Biol.
9: 1746-53). Deletion of sequences upstream from the coding
region eliminates normal developmental expression and results
in regulation of Hsp83 in a manner similar to that of Hsp70
which is activated only in response to heat shock.
